Material(s): cherry wood, maple wood, walnut wood, Titebond 3 wood glue, mineral oil (finish)
Process(es): cut wood and glued in alternating strips (glue up #1), cross cut for final strips and glued (glue up #2), added walnut border (glue up #3), routed and sanded
Cherry Picture Frame for Mom
Material(s): cherry wood, linseed oil, clear acrylic, wood glue, strap clamp, orbital sander, sandpaper, old frame backing
Process(es): cut using table saw, glued up using strap clamp, finished with linseed oil
Wood Pen for Dad
Material(s): purple heart pen blanks, pen kit, lathe, sand paper, spray bottle
Process(es): turn blanks to desired shape, sand, assemble wood and pen hardware using pen press
Note: do not wet sand purple heart or it will leave behind the white residue
Wood Jack O' Lantern
Material(s): 1/2" plywood, nail gun and nails, wood curls, wood glue, waterjet, table saw, bandsaw
Process(es): sides panels and top cut to size using table saw, used the waterjet to cut out the face, used nail gun and wood glue to attach the sides at 90 degree angles, used the bandsaw to cut the stem, used a hammer and file to distress the wood, colored using wood stain
